Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be my child's teachers?

Our mission is to find native Spanish-speaking instructors who are passionate about working with children. All teaching staff will also undergo curriculum-specific training. You may find that your child's teacher was a former teacher, an aide in a classroom or have worked in a facility that services children.

Are classes refundable?

We understand that things happen! If your child gets sick or is unable to attend, just notify us and we'll do our best to have them join another class or provide a refund if we you request cancellation at least 3 days in advance.

What are class packs?

Learning a new language requires continuous practice. Our class packs are designed to give your child the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language for maximum exposure. Additionally, you get added savings by buying a class pack. It's a win-win!

Do you offer any discounts?

We do! We offer an amigo (friend) discount as as well as a sibling discount. However, the best way to save is by buying our class packs.

How many kids will be in my child's class?

To ensure that every child has the optimal chance to participate, our classes will maintain a maximum of 20 children under the supervision of one lead teacher, one assistant teacher, and one assistant.

When is the best age to start teaching a second language to children?

While you can learn a language at any age, studies repeatedly show that children have a unique ability to learn languages. A Harvard and MIT study found that children under the age of 10 have the best chance of achieving native-like language proficiency. While parents often worry that introducing a second language too early may confuse a child, children are highly able to process multiple language inputs - even as young as infants.

Will learning a second language at a young age interfere with my child's development of their first language?

No. Children, even infants, can easily distinguish between multiple languages. Code-mixing is common and does not mean that a child is confused or is forgetting their own native language. Code-mixing is simply utilizing the vocabulary they know best or can recall easier.

We don't speak the language. Will my child actually learn?

Don't fret. You're not alone. Most households are monolingual. Language proficiency is highly correlated to the frequency and intensity of language exposure. Just because you cannot personally support your child in learning a new language does not mean you cannot support them in doing so. There are plenty of ways to reinforce language learning outside of our classes and we're happy to share them with you!

What if we can't keep up with classes?

Just like any other skill, practice is key to achieving perfection. The amount of progress your child makes and their level of proficiency in a new language will greatly depend on the time they spend practicing and using the target language. It's important to remember that even if your child cannot commit to lifelong language learning, every foundation they build will benefit them in the future. Just like taking a break from playing tennis for a year does not mean starting from scratch, the same applies to language learning.

How will I know my child is learning?

If you're not fluent in Spanish, you might be wondering about your child's progress. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of opportunities to witness their language skills in action. Remember, language learning is a gradual process and fluency doesn't happen overnight. However, they will gradually understand and use more vocabulary and grammar until they feel confident using them in their everyday situations.

My child isn't really social or vocal. Is that a problem for language learning?

Children's personalities vary greatly. However, just like we all learn our native language, every child will internalize language in their own way. Some children may be vocal from day one, others may take longer but all along they are progressing in comprehension skills.

Will my child get homework?

No. LingoStars instructors will not send homework home. However, we will send helpful resources so you and your child can review what was learned in class.

What if my child doesn't seem to like the classes or his/her teacher?

As parents, we all struggle with this. While our staff will do their best to engage all children, every child is different and some may love certain activities more than others. However, just like all skills and activities, if your goal is to have your child learn Spanish, it's important to commit to attending class as frequently as possible. If any issues should arise concerning an instructor, please reach out to administration to discuss.
